Tell us about the last thing you got excited about: India is on the moon. And Indians are over the moon!

Tell us about the last thing you got excited about.

I hail from India, a land teeming with diversity, not only in its geography but also in its culture, languages, and religions. Yet, the true splendor of our nation lies in the way various events effortlessly unite us. Whether it’s the festive fervor, the excitement of cricket matches, or the resonance of a blockbuster movie or song, we harmoniously sync with the rhythm of these occasions. Among these, a recent landmark was the triumphant touchdown of the Vikram lander during the Chandrayaan mission.

From the very inception of Chandrayaan, a month prior, images of people gathering around the launch site became popular. Kids clutching the Indian flag leapt with unbridled joy, while families stood enchanted by the awe-inspiring launch. And then came the momentous day when Vikram had to embrace the lunar surface โ€“ a day that resonated with a collective anxiety. The haunting memory of Chandrayaan-2’s crash landing, four years ago, added to the fast rhythm of the heartbeats pounding.

However, history was rewritten by the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) as the Chandrayaan-3 spacecraft performed a flawless, soft landing on the Moon’s terrain. The Vikram lander gently touched down , casting aside the previous heartbreak of Chandrayaan-2’s misfortune. This achievement engraved India’s name as the first country to successfully land a spacecraft in the uncharted territory near the lunar south pole. A small step for ISRO, perhaps, but a giant leap for the entire nation.

This accomplishment wasn’t merely about technology; it was about something deeply human. What stirred me, along with millions of Indians and space enthusiasts, was the realization that this mission was the culmination of the endeavors of scientists, often from humble beginnings, down to Earth, and yet resiliently reaching for the stars.

The fervor that ignited across the nation wasn’t just a celebration; it was an embodiment of unity and hope. It taught us that failure is a mere pause in the symphony of progress, and that each setback fuels a stronger comeback. The journey of Chandrayaan-3 illustrated that a united spirit can make a mission that began as an engineering feat transform into an inspirational tale of national pride.

In a country as vast and varied as ours, where languages, cultures, and religions intermingle harmoniously, this achievement was more than a space mission. It was a testament to our collective spirit, our unyielding resolve, and the essence of India’s unity in diversity.
