As soon as I saw this prompt, I looked at my dog who was snuggling beside me, looking at me with his wonder-filled eyes, as if waiting for me to post my biased, obvious opinion. So whenever the question of dogs or cats is posed to me, I do not really have to give it too much thought and say Dogs without a bated breath. I have had a pet dog right since childhood, so much so that to call them “pets” also does not feel fair to me. Now, lately, I have come across a lot of memes and unwarranted opinions of people labelling those of us who love dogs as activists or elitists. But, mostly, I never respond to such allegations because all I hold for them is a feeling of pity – pity that they have missed out on the most beautiful bond that life has to offer. They have missed those wagging tails, twinkling eyes, and an ever-faithful companionship where you do not need words at all, but mere actions speak volumes than words ever can.
I have not had much experience with cats, except for this one time when this cute little cat made a chair in my balcony a hangout spot. Initially, I tried running away from it, but then it came around me and purred as if to try to convince me not to pass judgment on whether I am a cat person or a dog person. Truth be told, I did warm up to the idea of cats too, but dogs have my entire love and affection for them. Come to think of it, we cannot even categorize dogs or cats because it is not exclusivist, as if to say you can like only one of them. Because not only experience but even research has proved that the level of sensitivity and sensibility animals possess often seems to outweigh us humans who think we are the ones who evolved. Our actions, our taunts, and our narrow views prove the evolution theory otherwise.
